The Siemens Energy Sector is the world's leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power, and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas. In fiscal 2008 (ended September 30), the Energy Sector had revenues of approximately EUR22.6 billion and received new orders totaling approximately EUR 33.4 billion and posted a profit of EUR 1.4 billion. On September 30, 2008, the Energy Sector had a work force of approximately 83,500.
Siemens Energy essentially comprises the business activities of the former Power Generation (PG) and Power Transmission and Distribution (PTD) Groups, and the Oil and Gas activities of the former Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group. The business portfolio is broken down into the six divisions Oil & Gas, Fossil Power Generation, Renewable Energy, Energy Service, Power Transmission and Power Distribution. All six divisions within the Energy Sector hold leading market positions.
Oil & Gas Division
The Oil & Gas Division supplies products and solutions used for the extraction, transport and processing of oil and gas. The portfolio includes solutions for power generation and distribution, compressors with electrical and mechanical drives, process and automation technology, water management and integrated IT solutions.
Fossil Power Generation Division
The Fossil Power Generation Division offers high-efficiency products and solutions for fossil-based power generation. The offerings extend from gas and steam turbines via generators to turnkey power plants. The division also develops process instrumentation & control systems for all types of power plants . Solid oxide fuel cells and products for fuel gasification round out the portfolio. The division also has stakes in joint ventures such as AREVA NP (Siemens stake: 34 percent) in the nuclear power sector and in the leading Russian power plant supplier Power Machines. The division is also represented in a number of joint ventures in China.
Renewable Energy Division
One of the focuses of the Renewable Energy Division is the further expansion of wind power business. Siemens is already market leader in offshore wind farms and in steam turbines for solar thermal power plants. Siemens is also involved in hydro power business through the joint venture Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation (Siemens stake: 35 percent).
Energy Service Division
The Energy Service Division offers comprehensive services for complete power plants, gas and steam turbines, generators and compressors. These services utilize advance plant diagnostics and systems engineering. The division is also responsible for the provision of emissions control services and systems as well as for power plant maintenance and even plant operation.
Power Transmission Division
The portfolio of the Power Transmission Division covers high-voltage transmission solutions, high-voltage switching products and systems, and innovative DC and AC transmission systems. Turnkey substations and power transformers round out the offerings.
Power Distribution Division
The Power Distribution Division combines medium-voltage components and systems, power automation solutions and services for power equipment and networks.
