Operation on Process Off-gas of a 24MW SGT-600 gas turbine on an LNG plant in China

presented at ASME 2006, Barcelona, Spain

The paper contains a brief description of the Tuha privately owned LNG plant which was started up at the Tuha Oil Fields in western China during 2004. The plant is running on associated gas from the oil field and the LNG is delivered to central China by trucks. The paper gives a description of the LNG plant, a definition of the special requirements on the gas turbine imposed by the nature of the fuel, a description of a combustor test on diluted gas, some events during commissioning and finally the engine verification test. It shows that a standard SGT-600 DLE unit can start and operate reliably and with low emissions on very much diluted natural gases.

All-electric driven refrigeration compressors in LNG plants offer advantages

presented at GASTECH 2005, Bilbao, Spain

Refrigeration turbocompressors in modern LNG liquefaction plants are traditionally driven by industrial heavy duty gas turbines. With an ongoing industry trend towards larger train sizes, and more emphasis placed on higher energy efficiency and lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the use of very large electric motors to drive the compressors becomes of increasing interest and the first “all electric driven” LNG plant will soon go into operation in Norway. This paper discusses economic and operational advantages of this alternate drive concept for the owners & operators of LNG liquefaction plants, a typical comparison study of the two alternatives is shown, and some details of the electrical drive technology are presented.
