Siemens XHQ software solution

Japanese energy company Idemitsu Kosan Co. Ltd has received an award from the Japan Institute of Information Technology (JIIT) in recognition of the excellent business value generated through the successful implementation of the Siemens SIMATIC IT XHQ Operations Intelligence Solution in its Hokkaido refinery. Idemitsu chose the Siemens software solution to provide the plant’s managers, supervisors and workers with real time information on the whole production process in the refinery. Together with its local partner company JGC Information System, Siemens Singapore managed to get the XHQ system up and running in the Hokkaido refinery in just 4 months.

The Siemens SIMATIC IT XHQ is the leading Operations Intelligence Solution for refineries and has been implemented by various major oil and gas companies, including ExxonMobil, Chevron or Saudi Aramco. The new system at the Hokkaido refinery went live in October 2006 and has since performed to the full satisfaction of the customer generating measurable and tangible business value. After successful implementation at Hokkaido refinery Idemistu Kosan Co. has chosen to use the Siemens solution in all its refineries and petrochemical plants as well as in its head office.

Crude oil is processed in refineries in hundreds of stages, and in facilities with thousands of pipelines, valves and reactors. Without an integrated information system even experts have a hard time maintaining an overview. The Siemens SIMATIC IT XHQ solution offers fast decision-making assistance by offering real-time information on selected parameters, including the plant utilization, availability of raw materials and process materials, energy consumption and product quality. Based on this, plant managers can optimize production in a flexible manner to achieve higher efficiency and reduce operating costs.
