SGen-2000H series / Hydrogen-Cooled
Hydrogen-cooled generators are used for rating up to 600 MVA for simple cycle, combined cycle and steam power plants. This increased capability is due to better heat transfer and lower density characteristics of hydrogen compared to air.
Also, the generator is completely sealed and thus more appropriate in environment that might have detrimental effects on an air-cooled generator.
Technical features
- Typically smaller in size and more efficient than equivalently rated air cooled model
- Not prone to contamination by dirt, oil and humidity
- Hydrogen and seal oil supply system to facilitate installation and maintenance
- Bearing brackets and shaft seals arranged to minimize H₂ leakage
- Frame arranged for ease of alignment and foundation loading
- Spring mounted stator to minimize vibration transmission to foundation
- Pre-stressed, non-magnetic, through bolts minimize the need for maintenance and
re-tensioning of the core
- Stator bar tightness is maintained with pre-stressed ripple springs or Global Vacuum Pressure Impregnation to avoid mechanical and electrical degradation
- Stator end windings surrounded by a compact support ring, made of glass-fiber,
to provide radial support
- Indirectly or directly cooled stator windings, depending on MVA rating, to minimize machine size
- Directly cooled rotor windings for high current (MVA) capability
